"GPS tracker for truck price" is one of the most searched phrases by transporters in India, and the answers online are usually a single number that hides half the cost. A tracker is not one purchase. It is a device, a SIM, a software plan and a fitting, and each has its own price and its own way of going wrong. This guide lays out all four so you can compare quotes properly.

The four things you pay for

ItemTypical range (2026)Paid
GPS device (basic wired tracker)₹1,500 to ₹3,500Once
GPS device (AIS-140 certified)₹3,500 to ₹7,000Once
SIM / data recharge₹40 to ₹100 per monthMonthly or yearly
Tracking software₹80 to ₹300 per vehicle per monthMonthly or yearly
Installation₹200 to ₹600 per vehicle, often free with bulk ordersOnce

Prices vary by city, brand and order size, and dealers bundle them differently. A quote that says "₹4,500 all inclusive" usually means device plus one year of SIM and software, after which you pay a yearly renewal. Always ask what year two costs.

What changes the device price

Wired or battery. Wired trackers take power from the truck battery and are the standard choice for commercial vehicles. Magnetic battery trackers cost more, need charging every few weeks and are meant for short-term use, not fleet tracking.

Relay (engine cut). A device with a relay output can switch the fuel pump or ignition off remotely. It adds a few hundred rupees and a little wiring. Useful for recovery after theft or for vehicles on finance.

Inputs for sensors. Fuel level sensors, temperature probes (for reefers) and door sensors need a device with spare inputs. A fuel sensor alone adds ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 plus calibration. Most fleets do not need one to control fuel theft; see our guide on catching fuel theft without a sensor.

AIS-140 certification. If the truck runs on a national permit or in a state that mandates it, the device must be AIS-140 certified and registered with the state backend. Certified devices have panic buttons, a backup battery and dual SIM, which is why they cost roughly double. Read what AIS-140 is before buying, because a non-certified device cannot be upgraded later.

Brand and GSM quality. Cheap imported trackers at ₹1,200 often lose network on highways and report positions in bursts. Devices from Teltonika, Concox, Queclink and Meitrack and their Indian equivalents cost more and work better in weak coverage. Over a five-year life the difference per month is small.

The SIM

Every tracker needs a data SIM. Options are:

  • M2M SIM from the dealer. Usually ₹500 to ₹1,000 per year, bundled into the plan. Easiest, because the dealer handles recharges and the SIM is locked to data only.
  • Your own prepaid SIM. Cheaper per month, but someone has to recharge 40 SIMs on time, and a lapsed SIM means a dark truck.
  • eSIM inside the device. Common in AIS-140 devices. The cost is part of the device and plan.

The software

This is where quotes differ the most. Some dealers charge nothing for software and recover it in a high device price with a lock-in. Others charge ₹150 to ₹300 per vehicle per month for the dashboard. Things to check:

  • Can you log in from a browser and a phone app, with a login for each manager?
  • Are daily reports (distance, stops, running time) available in Excel or PDF?
  • Are alerts included (overspeed, geofence, ignition, power cut) or priced per SMS?
  • Is history kept for at least six months?
  • If you leave, can you keep the devices and move to another platform? With open-protocol devices (GT06, Teltonika and most others) the answer should be yes.

SaralTrack is priced per vehicle per year with the device, SIM and installation quoted separately, so each part is visible. The pricing page has the plans.

A worked example: 10 trucks

Basic trackerAIS-140 tracker
10 devices₹25,000₹50,000
Installation₹3,000₹3,000
SIM, year 1₹7,200included
Software, year 1₹18,000₹18,000
Year 1 total₹53,200₹71,000
Year 2 onward (SIM + software)₹25,200₹18,000 to ₹25,000

Per truck that is about ₹440 per month in the first year and ₹210 per month after. One avoided night of diesel theft or one recovered detour pays for a quarter.

Hidden costs to ask about

  • Renewal price. Some plans are cheap in year one and double in year two.
  • SMS alerts. Often charged per message. App and email alerts should be free.
  • Device warranty. One year is standard. Ask what a replacement costs after that.
  • Removal and refit. If you sell a truck, moving the device to the new one should be a small fitting charge, not a new device.
  • Lock-in. A platform that only works with its own branded devices makes leaving expensive.

How to choose

For a small fleet of trucks on state routes without an AIS-140 mandate, a good wired GT06-class or Teltonika device with a yearly software plan is the right balance. For national permit trucks, buses and anything a state RTO can stop and check, buy AIS-140 certified from the start. Either way, keep the device open-protocol so the data stays yours.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a GPS tracker for a truck cost in India?

A basic wired GPS tracker costs ₹1,500 to ₹3,500, and an AIS-140 certified one ₹3,500 to ₹7,000. Add ₹40 to ₹100 per month for the SIM and ₹80 to ₹300 per vehicle per month for the tracking software.

Is there a monthly charge for truck GPS?

Yes. The device is a one-time cost, but the SIM data and the tracking software are recurring, usually billed yearly. Ask for the renewal price before buying.

Can I use one GPS tracker on two trucks?

A device can be moved from one truck to another by an installer, but it tracks only the vehicle it is fitted in. Each truck needs its own device.

Do I need an AIS-140 GPS for my truck?

If the truck runs on a national permit or your state mandates vehicle location tracking for commercial vehicles, yes. For other trucks a standard tracker is enough. Check with your RTO or the dealer before buying.
